Not very long ago, a concept such as “webcams” wasn’t considered as more then fiction. An object that can allow you to record video, and stream yourself live to loved ones across the globe? Blasphemy. Science Fiction. Not possible.

Well, that idea is no longer any of those things, and webcams are very much a reality. Weather your use for the devices are to record yourself while gaming, or to video call an aunt via Skype, webcams are very much a part of every day life. But which are the best? What cameras can give you the best performance for live streaming on Twitch? Which are better suited to record video? Which ones are the most affordable?

That is what we are here to find out today. In this article, we will be taking a look at various quality webcams, as well as various individual features of the webcams, so that you may be able to find the device that is best suited to your needs. This article of the best webcams for pc is broken down into two categories. the best 720 webcams for PC and the best 1080 webcams for PC.

Best 720p Budget Webcams for the PC

If you’re looking for webcams and are on a budget, then I recommend you check out one of these 720p webcams. They’re affordable and still satisfactory for most things that would require a webcam. They won’t compete with the 1080p webcams concerning quality, but they’re also half the price.

10. HAVIT HV-N5086 Webcam

  • Pros

    • Extremely Affordable!
    • Nice Design
    • Webcam is good
    • 1 year warranty
    • long wired cord (52 inches)
  • Cons

    • The Mic isn’t that good
    • Won’t compete with more expensive mics on this list

If you just immediately dismissed the havit HV-N5086 because it’s not some super popular brand you’d be missing out. This webcam to me personally is the best budget webcam out right now. It gives you the ability to record in 720p, all for under $20(at the time of this review). If you’re just looking for a webcam that will do the basics, you can’t go wrong with the havit N5086.

If you’re just looking for a cheap 720p webcam, then I can’t recommend hav-its HV-N5086 (N5 from now on) enough. The N5 is less than $20(at the moment). Let that sink in for a second. Most people think getting a webcam for the PC is going to set them back at least $50+, and a year ago that might have been the case. Now however you can get a webcam at the same price as a meal.

The N5 also has some pretty good specs considering its price. It’s a USB 2.0 device which is standard. It’s recommended resolution is lower than 720p, but you can scale this up, which is why I included it on this list.

You should also note that this webcam is wired. The length is great however coming in at 52 inches.

It also works for all operating systems like Mac OS, Linux, and Windows as the drivers automatically install when you hook up this webcam.

Not everything is great with this webcam, however. The mic on this webcam is subpar. When talking you hear a good amount of static which can be annyoing. You can’t expect much with this price, but the mic leaves much to be desired.

Havit does have a one year on all their products, so this does counteract most of the cons with this product, however, so you should feel pretty comfortable buying this webcam.

Look, this won’t compete with most of the webcams on this list, but when you consider that this is so affordable, I just thought that it would be a shame to exclude this off the list. For my budget conscious readers.

9. Creative Live! Cam Sync HD 720P Webcam

  • Pros

    • Cheap
    • Build Quality
    • Quick Setup
    • Can be used as a monitor
  • Cons

    • The Mic isn’t that good
    • Webcams camera can be bad at times
    • Won’t compete with more expensive mics on this list

Creative Live’s Cam Sync 720p HD webcam is great for someone who’s going to only use their webcam very sparingly. It’s also good for monitoring things such as a baby, pet or just a space in general with its unique live feature. The mic is definitely the weak link to this webcam, so  If you’re a professional I’d check the more expensive webcams on this list.

Just because I think that Havit has the best budget webcam, doesn’t mean that Creative Live’s webcam isn’t amazing as well. Another relatively unknown brand, Creative Live’s Cam Sync 720p webcam is excellent for the price. It’s a little more expensive than Havit’s, but it’s still currently under $20 (prices fluctuate) It works with all the major platforms, so that is one thing you don’t have to worry about.

The only issue, I have with this webcam is the mic. It’s better than the previous webcams mic, but it still lacks clarity. If you’re looking for a webcam with a good mic, it seems that you’re going to have to spend a bit more.

The Cam Sync’s build quality is also pretty good, and the product looks much more expensive that it actually is, so that’s always a plus.

When you think about what you’re getting for the price, I have to say that the Cam Sync 720p, is a great buy. I still recommend spending some more money for something better, but if you are trying to keep it under $20, I could easily recommend the Cam Sync. My final verdict, ideal for someone only using it occasionally, bad for professionals who’re going to be using this a lot.

8. Microsoft Lifecam HD 3000

  • Pros

    • Nice Design
    • 720p HD Looks Better Than Most
    • TrueColor Technology
    • Great Webcam Mount
    • Skype Certified
  • Cons

    • The Mic is sub par
    • Video-Quality isn’t that good in dark settings

The Microsoft Lifecam HD 3000, is a good webcam with a wide field of view. I’m a huge fan of the design and the mount is also very flexible allowing for easy placement. It’s also skype certified which means that it will work perfectly with the program if that’s what you’re getting this for that’s definitely a pro. While I’d recommend you just spend a few more dollars and pick up a 1080p widescreen webcam, this is still a great product that will prove to very useful.

If you are looking for a good webcam that will not break your bank, the Microsoft Lifecam HD 3000 is the way to go. Featuring 720p HD, and 16:9 widescreen recording, the Lifecam is a high-resolution camera that will only cost you about $22 on Amazon. This makes the Lifecam HD 3000 a great low budget solution to people who’re looking for a great widescreen camera and aren’t looking for a 1080p webcam.

The Lifecam also has TrueColor technology, which will allow for easy recording in virtually any environment as the camera will automatically bright and colorful video. It also is easy to use on any form of computer, whether it’s a Desktop or a notebook, as it features a universal attachment for various models.

I’m also a big fan of the mount as it allows you to easily attach this webcam to just about anything. If there is any drawback to this camera, it is that the mic is definitely on the weaker side, as is the case with many of these low-end webcams. But for the value price, you can not ask for a much better camera.

7. Logitech C270 Webcam

  • Pros

    • Good Mic
    • 720p HD
    • Skype Certified
    • Compact Design
    • Very Portable
  • Cons

    • 3 MP Photo Resolution
    • Doesn’t Work With Newer Mac OS 10.5 and Up
    • Unappealing Design

The Logitech C270 is an older Logitech webcam that will get the job done. The mic and camera are great on this webcam, but the 3MP photo resolution is lacking. If you’re just going to be doing basic chats and communicating with friends, then this is a great standard webcam to pick up.The C270 may be old (came out in 2011), but it’s still kicking and worth a look at as the price is severely discounted.

Another good webcam for a low price, the Logitech C270 will only run you about $23-25. Like the Microsoft Lifecam, the C270 features 720p HD recording and video calling, but also has the built-in camera that the Lifecam was missing. The built-in microphone also has the capability to filter out background noises, giving high-quality sound to go along with the HD video.

The C270, isn’t the best-looking webcam to be one hundred percent honest and that’s to be expected when you consider that it is going on 5 years old. However, I have to admit that it does everything you could want  out of a basic webcam.

The C270 also has the capability to take decent, 3 MP photos, in case you would rather update your Facebook photos then record a video. The camera is also compatible with a wide range of operating systems, all the way from Windows XP, up to the latest Windows 8 and 10.  While there are certainly cameras with better image quality available on the market, the Logitech C270 is a quality webcam at a quality price.

6. Microsoft LifeCam Cinema 720p HD

  • Pros

    • Wide Field Of View
    • True 720p HD
    • Amazing Build Quality
    • Flexible Mount
    • Great Auto Focusing Features
    • Competes with some 1080p Webcams
  • Cons

    • Really Expensive for a 720p Webcam

The Microsoft LifeCam Cinema is easily one of the best 720p webcams out their. With this 720p webcam being more expensive than 1080p webcams, I really can’t fully recommend it. However, if you need a high-quality 720p webcam with a great mic and design, then you won’t find a 720p webcam better than the Cinema.

Going back to Microsoft, we bring you the LifeCam Cinema webcam. Like many of these cameras, the Cinema captures HD video in 720p for both recording and web calling and does so at 30fps.

Much like its brother, the LifeCam HD 3000, the Cinema has a built in, noise canceling microphone as well as the TrueColor technology, but comes in a much sturdier aluminum body. The camera also has a lens with auto-focus, another feature that the HD 3000 lacks.

The Cinema is a little pricier than the HD 3000, coming with a price tag that ranges from $35-45 on Amazon, but it comes with new features and improves on many of the features of its brother. If you are willing to shell out a few extra dollars, you will not be disappointed.

Best 1080p Webcams for the PC

While there’s nothing wrong with 720p budget webcams, if you’re trying to do anything at a high level that requires a webcam, I urge you to get a 1080p webcam. Not only are they better in almost every way compared to their 720p brethren, but they often last a lot longer as well. You see, as time progresses and skype becomes the new job interview tool or  twitch requires 1080p webcams, 720p won’t cut it. Besides, 1080p webcams aren’t even that expensive.

5. AUSDOM AW335 1080p Webcam

  • Pros

    • Very Affordable 1080p webcam
    • Great Noise Cancelling Mic
    • Able to rotate 360 Degrees
    • 12-Month Warranty
    • USB 3.0 Connectivity
    • Works with all Operating Systems
  • Cons

    • Design isn’t the best
    • Unknown Brand

The AUSDOM AW335 1080p webcam is really a good deal. Most people refuse to spend money to upgrade to a 1080p webcam, but with this so closely priced to the 720p webcams their really is no reason not to check this webcam out. If you’re going to be doing any type of business that utilizes a webcam and are still on a tight budget, then this would be my recommended webcam. Everything you need, this webcam has it’s truly a good deal.

People seem to think that getting a 1080p webcam is going to cost a good amount of money, but what if I told you that you can pick up a 1080p webcam for under $30 (prices change)!  The AUSDOM AW335 is a simple 1080p webcam that will allow someone on a tight budget to stream, record, video chat, and do so much more at an amazingly affordable price. With 1080p webcams at such a low price, I feel there is no need for someone who’s a professional to have a 720p camera.

This camera can also rotate 360 degree which is a useful feature whenever you want to readjust the camera. It’s also capable of being used as a USB 3.0 for even better connectivity. The video quality is excellent for the price and looks clear. I don’t know how AUSDOM can sell this camera at such an affordable price, but I feel like you’d be missing out if you ignored this webcam.

AUSDOM knows that people like to stick with name brand products, so they are offering a 12-month warranty on their product, which is reassuring. One of my favorite features, however, is the ability to just plug in the webcam, and it automatically works. There’s nothing more dissatisfying than having to install hundreds of drivers after getting a product. The AW335 will work for any operating system with no software needed.

If you’re looking for a high-quality 1080p webcam at an affordable price, I feel like AUSDOM takes the cake. They have one of the best webcams I’ve ever seen at this price range. A great mic and 1080p quality, that’s hard to beat especially when it is under $30(at the moment).

4. Genius Widecam F100

  • Pros

    • Very Affordable 1080p webcam
    • 12 MP Photos
    • 1080p 30 FPS Recording
    • Great Mic
    • Long Cable
    • 360 Degree Swivel
  • Cons

    • New Brand
    • Camera’s Radius May be too wide for some

If you’re looking for a conference webcam that can capture multiple people, then the Genius Widecam F100 is a good option. It’s affordable and cheap and looks great for the price. With a 120 degree field of view, it definitely captures a good deal. The mic also does a great job capturing voices which is why I can so easily recommend the Genius WideCam F100.If you’re not trying to capture a wide field of view, then I recommend you check out something else.

Another great affordable 1080p would be Genius’s WidCam F100. Not only is this webcam affordable, but probably one of its biggest pros would be the  120-degree field of view that this camera shows. The large field of view makes it perfect for people who’re looking for something that can capture many people. The F100’s mic is also very useful. It can capture multiple voices at the same time and filters out a good deal of background noise.

The WildCam F100 can also record 1080p 30fps, which is more than enough to get started on youtube or a streaming service like Twitch if that is what you plan to use this for. If you’re looking to take pictures with this webcam, it does take 12 MP (Mega Pixel) pictures which is outstanding for this price.

The biggest pro of this camera is also the biggest con. I wouldn’t recommend this for someone who’s just looking for a webcam that will only capture them alone as this camera will capture you and so much more.

If you’re looking for something that has a wide field of view and also has a great mic, then you can’t go wrong with the WildCam F100. It’s very affordable and is a steal if you ask me. I also find the design to be very appealing and professional

3. Logitech HD Webcam C615

  • Pros

    • Two Webcam Modes: Wide angle and Regular
    • Great AutoFocus
    • 1080p 30 FPS Recording
    • Excellent Noise Cancelling Mic
    • Very Compact
    • 360 Degree Swivel
    • Logitech Brand
    • Great Warranty
  • Cons

    • 8MP Camera

Logitech is probably one of my favorite PC peripheral makers. They always provide high-quality products and have an excellent warranty. If you’re looking for a great product from a trusted brand that also provides amazing value, then the Logitech C615, is a great buy. It’s a very compact webcam that is really perfect for people on the go. Considering that it’s just a little north of $40, I’d say this is one of my favorite 1080p webcams.

The Logitech C615 is a nice compact webcam. Due to its compact design, it’s easy to transport and use on the go. It requires no software which makes it a great device for someone who wants to just hook it up at their local library (or any other place with public PC’s). You’d think that the quality of this webcam would suffer because of how small it is, but I can assure you that this webcam is better than all the webcams above it.

This webcam has different camera viewing modes. You see if you want to set this camera as a wide angle, then you can do just that. Then when you need something a little more close up you can use the regular mode. The different viewing modes allow for a good deal of flexibility that just isn’t found in cheaper webcams.

The C615 also can turn 360 degrees, which is a huge plus for anyone who likes to quickly readjust their webcam.  The mic on the C615 is also very nice. When using it, you sound crystal clear, and it truly helps bring this webcam to the forefront. You can record in 1080p 30fps if that’s something you’re interested in.

If you’re okay with spending a little more money, I would easily recommend the Logitech C615. It’s still under $50 at the moment and has a plethora of options. Want to record a meeting on Skype, go widescreen mode. Want to just record yourself, then go regular mode. These modes combined with the 360 degrees swivel and compact design, makes this a perfect webcam for those on the go.

2. Microsoft LifeCam Studio

  • Pros

    • Perfect For Meetings
    • Insanely Good Mic
    • Truecolor Technology
    • 180 degree swivel
    • 1080p HD Widescreen
    • Superior Aluminum Body
  • Cons

    • Video Chat is in 720p

I’ve featured Microsoft on here a lot and there’s a reason for that. They make high-quality webcams that just work. The LifeCam Studio is a great 1080p webcam that can be used for just about anything. The Mic is great and the image is quality is good. This product is also People are having some issues with the software so that’s my only reservation with the Studio as it can be hard to get. As long as you’re a little tech-savvy you should be able to pull out the full capabilities of this webcam. If you’d rather just get something that is a little more beginner friendly, I’d check out the Logitech C920 below.

One of the most expensive webcams we’ll talk about today is the Microsoft LifeCam Studio. While the higher price point may be a deterrent to some, the price is more than reasonable when considering the amount of features this camera has.

The Studio’s wide range of features starts with being able to easily plug it and start using it. The camera also records in full 1080p HD and features an 110-degree field of view, and makes for a great webcam to use when more than one person is going to be talking with the webcam.

Like most of the other cameras, the Studio also has a built in microphone, but not just any low-quality mic. The Mic on the Studio is very clear, and anyone listening to you will feel like you’re talking right beside them

When you consider what you’re getting, the LifeCam Studio’s price makes a lot of sense. The Studio is a great product that can do just about anything you want, plus more. This is a great buy for people who’re looking for a quality webcam that will last them for years to come.

    Hey Joe,

If you’re trying to really do youtube or twitch streaming seriously, I’d recommend you check out one of the 1080p webcams. My pick would be the Logitech C920, but the C615 is great as well.
