How Can I Transport My Gaming Equipment Safely?

For most of your gaming life, you have probably spend your time in your home. Whether in front of your tv or your pc set up, gaming isn’t really an on-the-go hobby. You know where everything is, and everything has a place. So why would you ever need to worry about moving it to a different place, and if you decide to, how would you get it there safely?

Why Bother?

So why would you ever bother to move your gaming set up? After all, it is in the most convenient location. If you want to play with friends, you can connect through the internet or use their console. It doesn’t seem like there is much point in moving your things. But sometimes you don’t have a choice. If you are setting up a live demo with an audience, you want to be in a more public location. If you are moving, you want to make sure your equipment makes it to your new home with no damage.

Distance

If you are just going a few streets over, you probably don’t need to worry about packing things up super carefully, unless someone else is doing the transport or you have some really fragile equipment. On the other hand, if you are going on a longer trip, whether it is a road trip or plane ride, you need to be much more careful. Everyone has seen how bags get thrown around at an airport, and things are constantly shifting in a car, especially if you have to stop suddenly. Jostling and bumping could turn a monitor into a useless paperweight in a matter of seconds.

What Should I Use?

If you still have the original packaging that your equipment came in, this is your best option. Manufacturers don’t want their products to get damaged while they are on the way to you, so they invest in proper packing materials. If you kept it for some reason, slip your consoles, monitors, and other equipment back into their protective packaging and get on your way. This is most useful if you are driving to your location.

On the other hand, if you are flying or you don’t have the original casing, you may need a different option. Navigating an airport with large boxes that don’t have good handles is nearly impossible and not worth the struggle. If you are in this situation, look for sturdy protective cases. They should have foam inserts to keep your equipment secure and a hard shell that can absorb impact. These cases come in all shapes and sizes, and some of them even have wheels, which can make your trip so much easier.

Whatever your reason for moving your equipment and whatever you use to transport it, making sure you cushion your equipment properly is the best way to make sure it gets there in one piece. You have invested quite a bit of money in this so don’t let it go to waste.
