Is Building A Gaming PC Hard?

This is what most people think is going to happen when building their PC…

Building a gaming PC can be very daunting when you’re looking in from the outside. You have many different components to a PC and believe me they’re not cheap! The last thing you want to do is mess something up.

So when someone asks this question, I totally get it! However, what if I told you that building a gaming PC is actually surprisingly easy.

Prebuilt vs. Building A Gaming PC

Ah, the age-old debate! Do you buy or build a gaming PC?

If I told you that both sides have their strengths would you believe me? Sure, I’m still a major proponent of building a gaming PC, but the reality of the matter is that for some of you buying the RIGHT prebuilt PC could make a ton of sense.

I’m going to keep things brief here, but build a PC if you want to get the maximum value for your money, and also want that feeling of satisfaction that comes with building your own PC.

Buy a gaming PC if you want a simplified PC setup process and a PC warranty that covers everything if something was to go wrong.

There’s no real right or wrong. It all depends on who you are and what you value.

What Would I Recommend?

Nothing compares to building a gaming PC to me. The feeling of accomplishment, and excitement after having invested a few hours and then hitting that on button is irreplaceable.

So building a PC for me is a no-brainer.

What’s The Best PC Build For Gaming?

The best PC build for gaming is a build that you can afford that runs games at a level that you can live with.

If you play games that aren’t demanding such as League of Legends or Minecraft then you’re going to need a lot less than someone who wants the best graphics on Fortnite.

That’s not to say that you can’t get an affordable PC to run some of the latest games, but you have to realize that there are going to be some sacrifices you’ll have to make.

You also have to account for the future. The last thing you want is to sink hundreds or even thousands of dollars into a PC that is going to be obsolete in a year or two.

Even when it does come time to upgrade ideally your build is something that has recent enough parts that you can just switch out one or two components and be able to game at the highest of levels once again

Thankfully, we’ve created PC budget build recommendations below so building your PC is that much easier!

Operating System Options

Now that you’ve got your gaming PC build , you’re going to need to identify the operating system you need.

What’s an operating system?

(It’s basically the foundation of everything on your PC)

A lot of people don’t even know this, but PC’s don’t naturally come with operating systems

Get Windows 10

Because it offers the best performance and all game developers optimize their games for it. It pays to be top dog.

How to get Windows 10?

Sadly Microsoft isn’t running a charity, and they charge a good bit for Windows 10. MSRP at $100 it’s a bit of a headache.

No products found.

Can you Get Windows 10 Cheaper?

Yes, sells real Windows 10 keys that are valid.

BUT they sometimes give you validation issues because they’re wholesale keys that gaming pc building companies get.

Kinguin does offer a guarantee so if the key doesn’t work you can always get another one.

You stand to save about $60 compared to just buying the key from Microsoft directly so that’s worth looking into If you’re on a tight budget.

What About The Other Operating Systems?

There are other operating systems available that are even free! Sadly, they’re pretty inferior to Windows when it comes to gaming, and you’d be sacrificing a lot of performance if you used them over Windows.

However, I’m still going to give you a brief look at a few of the standout OS’s that are some good if you want to go give them a look.

Linux Operating System:

Linux is an open platform operating system that’s designed to be highly customizable, and fluid. If you don’t mind a steep learning curve for more control of your PC, then Linux is worth looking into.

Steam OS:

Steam’s created their own operating system, and while it’s actually quite good for gaming it’s nowhere near as fleshed out as windows.

If you want to use your PC as a console and only game on it then you can go for this, but just know that you lose a ton flexibility that Windows offers.

How To Connect Your Gaming PC To The Internet?

So you have a few options when it comes to connecting online.

Option 1: Ethernet Cable

The simplest way is to just connect an ethernet cable and have a wired connection.

Ethernet connections are still the strongest connections out there because you’re tied directly into the router.

Ethernet – Mediabridge Ethernet Cable (50 Feet)

Mediabridge Ethernet Cable (50 Feet) -...

Super simple, but highly effective ethernet cable.

This might not always be feasible though so we’re also going to recommend a few adapters that give you the capability to connect to the internet wirelessly.

Option 2: PCI WiFi Adapter

Our top recommended PC Wifi adapter is listed below:

PCI WiFi Adapter – ASUS PCE-AC56

ASUS PCE-AC56 PCI Wireless Express...

Very Strong Wireless Adapter That’s Connected To The Motherboard”

The Asus PCE-AC56 is a really strong PCI Wifi Adapter at a good price making it our recommended value pick when looking for a PCI WiFi adapter.

The biggest reason to get the AC56 is if you’re looking for a superior WiFi connection. You can get up to 867 Mbps at 5GHZ, but more importantly, the connection signal is VERY strong compared to a USB adapter.

If you’re playing online games like Fortnite, Apex Legends, Overwatch, or anything else I recommend getting this if you can’t connect directly into the router.

Want to learn more about PCI Wifi Adapters? Check out our best PCI Wifi Adapters.

Option 3: USB Wifi Adapter

USB WiFi Adapter – Techkey 1750Mbps

USB WiFi Adapter for PC, Techkey...

Powerful USB WiFi Adapter that offers great speeds.”

The Techkey 1750Mbps is our recommended value buy coming in at only $34!

You’re also getting a much stronger connection than the average USB Wifi adapter because of the dual-band antenna the Techkey 1750Mbps USB adapter has.

One feature that’s always been super cool to me is the ability to actually create a wireless hotspot with this device. So if you have a friend that also needs an internet connection, but their PC doesn’t have far enough range you can actually use this!
